Professor Galaty's research interests include pastoralism, rangeland development, wildlife and community conservation; legal anthropology, property and land tenure; social conflict and violence; nationalism, ethnicity and identity; ritual and age-organization, psychological anthropology; culture and semiotics, ethnohistory; eastern Africa.
