The Associate Dean, Administration and Budget, supports the听

• Academic administration: Works closely with the Director of Administration on the optimization and management of Arts administrative support, and is the primary academic contact for questions involving relations between academic and administrative staff, providing a link between the academic and administrative 鈥渟ides鈥� of the Faculty.听听

• Supports the Dean in the process of AMPFA collective bargaining, and subsequently with matters pertaining to the eventual collective agreement.听

• Governance review and development of a recommendation for consideration by an appropriate committee.听

• Review of new Academic Programs, especially for budgetary implications听

• Work as part of the DoA Teams听

听

• Budget: Has primary responsibility in the distribution of the 鈥渟upplemental teaching budget鈥� (i.e. the course lecturer and TA/grader allocations), and is the primary contact for matters related to CLs and TAs/graders, including (in collaboration with the Arts HR team) implementation of the MCLIU and AGSEM collective agreements.听

• Responsible for distribution of MCLIU course posting exemptions.听听

• Support the Dean more generally, in the management of the Faculty of Arts budget and the implementation of budgetary measures, including attending budgetary meetings.听听

听

• Space and operations: Management of the allocation of physical space for the Faculty (working with the Operations team), including Arts computing services, working closely with Campus Space and Planning, Teaching and Learning Services, and Facilities Management鈥�听

听

• Other special projects: at the request of the Dean.鈥�听

The Associate Dean, Research and EDI has two distinct sets of responsibilities. She oversees and facilitates research activities within the Faculty of Arts and promotes a culture of innovation and collaboration with professors, researchers, and administrators to enhance the Faculty鈥檚 research profile.鈥�听

• Research Strategy Development:鈥�听

• Development and implementation of a strategic research plan aligned with the university's mission and goals.鈥�听

• Identification of emerging research trends and opportunities鈥�听

• Faculty support and development:鈥�听

• Guidance and mentorship to faculty members in matters related to research, including grant writing and project management.鈥�听

• Fostering a supportive research environment by promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and networking.鈥�听

• Identification of necessary research infrastructure and investments.鈥�听

• Research Funding:鈥�听

• Management of research budgets and allocation of resources.鈥�听

• Establishment of criteria and principled procedures for the allocation of funds and research positions.鈥�听

• Striking a Research Committee to consider awards and recognition听

• Approval of sabbatical leaves听

She also supports EDI initiatives within the Faculty of Arts, including co-chairing the Arts听 Committee on EDI.鈥�听

• Arts representative on University EDI committees, including University Leadership Council on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Faculty ABR and Indigenous Initiatives Council (EDIC);鈥�听

• Works with the Dean to support Indigenous initiatives and Black-anchored events and activities in Arts;鈥�听

• Delegated authority to review and approve nil salary, associate and adjunct appointments;鈥�听

• Supporting the on-boarding of new faculty鈥�听

• Oversees all PhD and MA degrees in the Faculty of Arts, including admissions processes, graduate student programs and training, support and training for all Graduate Program Directors, and exploration of new research techniques and trajectories for advanced students
• Oversees and allocates funding packages granted by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) to each graduate program in the Faculty of Arts
• Adjudication and assembly of committees for graduate student awards.听
• Oversees and implements Faculty and University policies, rules, and regulations relating to graduate students, liasing with units and GPDs.鈥�
• Sits on University committees related to graduate studies, including the Council of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, and liases with graduate student leaders and groups including PGSS representatives
• Manages applications and entries of postdoctoral fellows and visiting and inter-university transfer students at graduate level
• Oversees applications for McCall McBain Awards
• Liases with Arts Curriculum Committee regarding program changes
• Liases with Dean of Students and GPS on disciplinary issues regarding graduate students
• Manages and oversees supervisory relationships between professors and graduate students in the Faculty of Arts

The Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Strategic Initiatives oversees and manages all undergraduate student matters in the Faculty:

• Oversight of Arts OASIS, whose mandate includes providing advice and support to students regarding their academic path
• Disciplinary officer for the Faculty of Arts
• Chair of Committee on Student Affairs and Scholarship Committee
• Manage study away and exchange programs for the Faculty of Arts
• Oversight of Faculty Responsibilities to admissions and readmissions
• Representing Faculty of Arts on University committees pertaining to undergraduate student affairs
