Have a little bit of an idea of what you want to do in the future?\n \n Take the sting out of th e job hunt by joining the Grad Hive (Master’s Edition)!\n \n The Masters’ Gr ad Hive is a 3-part Design Thinking workshop on career development for Mas ters’ students from across disciplines.\n\nThe curriculum will include wor kshops\, hands-on experiential learning opportunities\, and self-reflectio n activities tailored specifically for Masters students who have some idea of what they want to do after graduation. Topics will include career expl oration\, skills\, interests\, and values identification\, effective commu nication and self-promotion\, and questions about academic and non-academi c career paths.\n\nLocation: 3610 McTavish\, Room 430\n Date: October 17th\ , Nov 14 and Nov 28\n Time: 2pm - 4pm\n\nBy registering for the Oct 17th se ssion you are automatically enrolled for all three sessions.\n \n Please reg ister through myFuture only if you can attend all three 3 sessions. on Oct 17\, Nov 14 and Nov 28 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm\n\n\nDesign thinking : a go od way to approach doing something brand new. \n\nCareer exploration and c areer building is a long process. Sometimes you want more information and options\, sometimes you want less info\, and really want to dig deep and t est out your options. Sometimes you want to brainstorm on your own\, and o ther times\, you want feedback and input from people with different experi ences. Sometimes you may feel free to ideate and come up with creative ide as\, and in others\, you might feel stuck.\n\nYour values\, skills\, and i nterests are constantly shifting\, as well as your circumstances\, however many modes of rational\, realist problem-solving don’t typically operate with a flexibility that accounts for these personal evolutions and changes along the way.\n\nDesign thinking\, a set of principles\, approaches\, an d tools used by designers to deal with frustrating\, constantly evolving\, or even unsolvable problems\, can.\n\nDesigners have a host of tools to h elp them get “unstuck.” In the Grad Hive we will be working “like designer s” in a closed group of your Masters peers to:\n\n- reframe dysfunctional beliefs about career paths\n\n- free up your mind to articulate your wilde st life dreams and take them all seriously\n\n- be curious and build strat egies for exploring opportunities\n\n- brainstorm for ways to try out and prototype careers\n\n- radical collaboration: create community with other graduate students who are all trying to do the same thing – to design a li fe that makes them happy.\n\nOne of the most important threads of the thre e-session program is collecting clues: we will be working together\, indiv idually and in our groups\, to explore career paths and ourselves. Through out the Grad Hive\, we will be collecting clues about our skills\, interes ts\, and values: all essential components of life design and career explor ation.\n\nFor more\, check out Bill Burnett’s Designing your Life Ted Talk on the course he teaches at the Stanford School of Design.\n\nhttps://www .youtube.com/watch?v=SemHh0n19LA\n\nWho is the Grad Hive for?\n\nIf you ar e open-minded and like trying new things\n\nIf you enjoy working in groups \n\nIf you are ready to take seriously your daydreams about your life\n\nI f you are curious\n\nIf you are think career education is about more than finding a job\n\nThe Grad Hive is for you\n\nNote:\n\nIf the Grad Hive doe sn’t appeal to you but you are interested in Design Thinking\, you can mee t with a CaPS grad career advisor individually for career advising. As the re is limited space in the group\, and the program builds on itself with e very session\, we ask those who register commit to attending all three ses sions.\n\n \n\n\nThe Grad Hive coordinators are committed to making our ev ents as accessible and barrier-free as possible. Please let us know if you have any accessibility needs or require accommodations to participate by contacting careers.caps [at] mcgill.ca.\n\nScent-Free Policy: Help us keep the air we share healthy and fragrance-free. Chemicals used in scented pr oducts such as hair spray\, perfume\, cologne\, and deodorant can make som e people sick and trigger reactions such as respiratory distress and heada ches. Please do not use these products\, or choose unscented versions\, wh en coming to events.\n DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20191017 DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20191128 LOCATION:3610 McTavish\, Room 430 SUMMARY:Master Grad Hive URL:/caps/channels/event/master-grad-hive-300822 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
