 . Drawing from research in the fields of media studies\, art and art histo
 ry\, social science\, law\, ethnography\, philosophy\, education\, game st
 udies\, cognitive sciences\, literature\, design and curatorship\, The Par
 ticipatory Condition critically probes the inherent participatory nature a
 ttributed to media\, and unearths other forms of participation that might 
 be obscured by excessive promises of digital utopia. Regrouping key contri
 butors of interdisciplinary scholarship on participation and new media\, t
 he colloquium seeks to assess the role of new media in the development of 
 a principle — participation — whose expansion has become so large as to re
