The forest or the trees? Seeing the Morgan Arboretum

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 19:00to20:30
Raymond Building 21111 Lakeshore Road, St Anne de Bellevue, QC, H9X 3V9, CA

“What can I see at the Morgan Arboretum?” visitors often ask. And the good ‘university professor’ answer is “It depends…” Many of us will see the forest; most of us will see the trees…but much depends on who you are, where you are from and what you expect. If you are a botanist or entomologist you will see hundreds of species. If you are a painter or photographer you will see textures and colors, lights and darks. If you are a woodworker you may see boards and blocks, tables and turned bowls. You might see a bright future in young cheeks rosy from the autumn air; or perhaps long ago days of the lazy summer strolling. What you will see in the Arboretum is truly food for thought. Jim Fyles is the Arboretum’s Academic Director and has spent the last few years leading a national research network that revolved around the understanding of what can be seen in Canada’s forests.

2010 marks the 10th anniversary of the Food for Thought Lecture series! This year's lectures will bring together experts whose research takes them from the high Arctic to the deep forests, and from the treetops to the soil below. Join us for a look at "Life on Planet Earth – Natural History at Macdonald."
