This year Schulich alumni and faculty have been honoured in the 68^th Grammy Awards, the 77^th Emmy Awards, and the 29^th Annual Prix Opus! Several alumni also received nominations for the 55^th JUNO Awards, held on March 28, 2026. Congratulations to all the awardees and nominees!

2025 - 2026 Wirth Vocal Prize Semifinalists

The Wirth Vocal Prize for vocal performance was established in 2015 through the extraordinary generosity of Elizabeth Wirth to the Schulich School of Music of ɬ�﷬, along with new Student Excellence Awards, and an innovative Student Initiatives Fund. Awarded yearly since its inception, the Wirth Vocal Prize recognizes a voice student who demonstrates exceptional talent and significant promise for an international career.

2025 - 2026 Golden Violin Award Semi-Finalists

The Golden Violin Award was established in 2006 by businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich, a year after he donated $20 million to ɬ�﷬’s Schulich School of Music. Made of pewter and gold plate, the Golden Violin remains on permanent display in ɬ�﷬’s Marvin Duchow Music Library. This year marks the monumental 20^th edition of the Golden Violin Award.

Associate Professor Philippe Leroux Awarded Orchesterpreis for new work Paris, Banlieue at 2025 Donaueschinger Musiktage

Philippe Leroux, composer and associate professor in Music Research at the Schulich School of Music, has been awarded the 2025 Donaueschinger Musiktage Orchesterpreis (Orchestra Prize) for his new work Paris, Banlieue. In his composition, Leroux addresses the web of relationships between central Paris and its suburbs—especially with regard to the movements of people triggered by their daily work.

Students Joseph Chang and Jonathan Monro Named 2025 Vanier Scholars

Two exceptional doctoral candidates from ɬ�﷬'s Schulich School of Music, Joseph Chang (DMus) and Jonathan Munro (DMus), have been awarded the prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship in recognition of their innovative research. This award provides up to $50,000 per year for up to three years, supporting outstanding students who demonstrate academic excellence, research potential, and leadership.
