I Medici di ɬ﷬ Orchestra o pens\nits 20th season on Sunday\, November 23\, at 8 pm with a public\ncon cert at Oscar Peterson Hall\, Loyola Campus of Concordia\nUniversity locat ed at 7141 Sherbrooke West under its conductor Iwan\nEdwards.\n\nThe first concert of the 20th season features Mozart’s “Don\nGiovanni” Overture K56 7 and Piano Concerto in D minor K466 with\nsoloist Seth Darst followed by Beethoven’s Symphony no 5 in C\nminor.\n\nSeth Darst obtained a Ph.D. in c hemical engineering at Stanford\nUniversity. He is currently a Professor o f Molecular Biophysics at\nRockefeller University. Dr. Darst was recently elected as a member\nof the National Academy of Sciences. He's taken priva te piano\nlessons off and on since the age of 7. On the occasion of the\nN ovember 23\, 2008 concert of I Medici that features Seth Darst as\nsoloist Groupe de Recherche Axé sur la Structure des Protéines\n(GRASP) organizes the 1st Annual GRASP Symposium on Monday\,\nNovember 24\, 2008.\n\nMaestr o Edwards has conducted I Medici di ɬ﷬ since the year\n2000.  He also directs Concerto Della Donna and the Montreal\nChildren’s Choir. Formerly a professor at ɬ﷬ he\nrecently retired from being music dir ector (and founder) of the St.\nLawrence Choir\, MSO Choir\, Ottawa Choral Society and the Canadian\nChamber Choir.\n\nI Medici di ɬ﷬ was founde d in 1989 by Dr. A. L. Padjen of\nɬ﷬’s Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics.  The\nmission of I Medici is to provide musical content for various\nevents in the life of the Faculty of Medicine\, the University an d\nthe community and thus add a unique social dimension to medical\neducat ion and to the profession.  The orchestra also plays\nduring an annual lec ture series on ‘’Music and Medicine’’.  I\nMedici is available for fundrai sing events.  The players come\nfrom the staff and students of ɬ﷬’s Fa culty of Medicine and the\nensemble is completed by players from the commu nity\, upon\ninvitation and audition.\n\nThe musicians of I Medici are all volunteers.
