In 2007, a treasure hunting company found a 19th Century shipwreck in the Atlantic, off the coast of Portugal. The company, Odyssey Marine Exploration, claimed property of the shipwreck and its cargo, some 600,000 silver and gold coins.

Cohen is among the recipients of the 13 Prix du Québec, whose names were announced today at a press conference held in Montreal.
With a voice that stirs the senses and a gift for poetic language that touches the soul, Leonard Cohen has been remarkably prolific in a career that spans five decades. His first volume of poetry was published while he was still an undergraduate student in ɬ﷬’s Faculty of Arts and since then, he has used his abundant talents to inspire and move generations of readers and listeners around the world. A ɬ﷬ graduate (BA’55) and honorary degree recipient (DLitt’92), Cohen was voted one of the ‘Greatest ɬ﷬ians’, a contest organized by the ɬ﷬ Alumni Association as part of the celebration of the University’s 190th anniversary.

 Monsieur Cohen est l’un des 13 lauréats d’un Prix du Québec, dont les noms ont été dévoilés aujourd’hui dans le cadre d’une conférence de presse tenue à Montréal.


Doté d’une voix qui fait vibrer les cœurs et d’un sens de la poésie qui remue les âmes, Leonard Cohen a été extrêmement prolifique au fil de ses 50 années de carrière. Il a publié son premier recueil de poésie alors qu’il était encore étudiant de premier cycle à la Faculté des arts de ɬ﷬. Depuis, il a inspiré et ému par ses multiples talents des générations de lecteurs et de spectateurs dans le monde entier. Diplômé de l’Université ɬ﷬ (B.A. 1955) et récipiendaire d’un doctorat honorifique (D. ès L. 1992), Leonard Cohen a été élu l’un des Grands Mcgillois, concours organisé par l’Association des diplômés de ɬ﷬ dans le cadre des célébrations entourant le 190e anniversaire de la célèbre institution montréalaise.
