Hailing from around the world, 涩里番鈥檚 valedictorians are a diverse, multitalented group. When they came to the University, they brought with them their unique backgrounds, passions, and ambitions. While they all praise the education they received at 涩里番, one thing is certain, the University has benefitted just as much for having them as valuable, contributing members of our community.

Dr. Mindy R. Carter, Associate Professor and Director of Teacher Education Programs, DISE, is the recipient of the Arts Researchers & Teachers Society at CSSE's Outstanding 2020 publication award for her peer reviewed journal article "Reconceptualizing Teacher Identity through Design Thinking and Creativity: A Montreal Case Study".

On behalf of the members of 涩里番 Faculty of Education, we mourn the tragic loss of 215 Indigenous children who were found in a mass grave at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia. Today, 涩里番 lowers its flags in recognition of this tragedy, and we at the Faculty echo the sentiments of the 涩里番 Provost. As our academics, staff, students, and alumni grieve together, we also stand together in support of our Indigenous community members.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the untimely passing of Dr. Aziz Choudry. Originally from New Zealand, Aziz joined us at 涩里番 in 2008 and was an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education until recently when he became a Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg鈥檚 Faculty of Education.

Dr. Philip S.S. Howard of the Department of Integrated Studies in Education will be this year's听keynote speaker for Western University's Perspectives on Teaching, Spring Conference. This free听virtual conference will "focus on looking back, moving forward, and lessons learned from a year of change and disruption in higher education", according to conference organizers.听

Associate Professor Annie Savard (Department of Integrated Studies in Education) was recently interviewed by the Times Colonist, a BC-based publication, about how Canadian students are performing in math颅ematics. Savard "...points out Quebec teachers have a clearer understanding of 'didactic' instruction, a concept championed in France and French-speaking countries. 'Knowing the content of the course isn鈥檛 enough,' Savard says. 'You need what we call didactic [teaching]. You need to unpack the content to make it accessible to students.'

Need to step up your health and fitness? 涩里番 Education's Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education is offering personalized at-home fitness sessions via Zoom for members of the 涩里番 Community! Kinesiology students will craft your fitness routine using your existing at-home equipment and household items.

As part of their internship, these students (supervised by a staff kinesiologist) will guide you through a one-hour workout twice a week for ten weeks (cost: $60 flat fee), to improve your strength, flexibility and overall physical health.

We are writing to you to make you aware of the required cybersecurity measures 涩里番 has been implementing during the past year鈥檚 remote work situation and the impending completion scheduled for our Faculty. 涩里番 has been rolling out two-factor authentication (2FA) for all new accounts since January 2020. In April, IT Services will support the Faculty of Education in securing all remaining accounts for faculty, staff, and students.

Two students from the Department of Integrated Studies in Education were selected for the which provides community-focused experiential learning opportunities for exceptional young leaders to become active and effective change-makers. Eleven 涩里番 fellows will join peers from St. Francis Xavier University, Queen鈥檚 University, Bishop鈥檚 University, and University of Ottawa, undergoing comprehensive training at Coady International Institute, and will receive up to $40,000 in funding to implement a community project.

According to Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the world鈥檚 largest international higher education network, 涩里番鈥檚 Faculty of Education has ranked 26th in the world for . Each of the subject rankings is compiled using four sources. The first two of these are QS鈥檚 global surveys of academics and employers, which are used to assess institutions鈥 international reputation in each subject.

Dr. Angelica Galante, DISE, Assistant Professor in Second Language Education, Assistant Professor in Language Education, and Director of the Plurilingual Lab, wrote an Op-Ed in the EdCan Network: Much More Than a Bilingual Country: A call for plurilingual education in Canada.听 In it she speaks of the importance of a multilingual education in the classroom and her experiences with bilingualism.
