As of January 1, 2019, there will be a new system of Continuing Professional听Development (CPD) credit requirements in place for all physicians practicing in Quebec. It is a 5-year cycle similar to the College of Family Physicians听of Canada (CCFP) cycle with a few听differences.

On November 20, 2018, leaders from 涩里番 traveled to Beijing to attend the first Joint Symposium on Primary Health Care, From Policy to Action: Strengthening Primary Health Care as the Foundation of our Health Systems. The two institutions connected on common goals and challenges, while learning from each other鈥檚 differences in approaches and policies, and signed a memorandum of understanding to pursue collaborations in care, education and research.
From October 17 to 21, 2018, the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) held its 22nd World Conference in Seoul, South Korea, where more than 5000 family doctors and residents from all around the world convened. WONCA is an association of 118 national Member Organizations, including the College of Family Physicians of Canada, which was well represented in Seoul by many members of its Board of Directors and by clinician-teachers/researchers from various Canadian universities. Former Quebec ministers Claude Castonguay, Jean Rochon and Michel Clair, together with Antonia Maioni, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Professor in the Department of Political Science at 涩里番, exchanged ideas with students and faculty members from 涩里番鈥檚 Department of Family Medicine during a packed event on October 22, 2018. The panelists engaged the audience in a frank conversation about the current state of primary care in Quebec.
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Kathleen Rice will join the Department of Family Medicine as a full-time Assistant Professor starting January 2019. She comes to us as a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)-funded Postdoctoral Fellow from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Rice earned a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Toronto and a Master鈥檚 degree in Social Anthropology from Concordia University.
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Samira Abbasgholizadeh-Rahimi will join the Department of Family Medicine in January 2019, as a full-time Assistant Professor.
On Oct. 22, 2018, a panel of experts convened at 涩里番鈥檚 Department of Family Medicine for a round-table discussion on the state of primary care in Quebec. Three former Quebec cabinet ministers 鈥� Claude Castonguay, Jean Rochon and Michel Clair 鈥� as well as professor of political science and health policy scholar Antonia Maioni offered their views on the actions required to improve the Quebec health-care system.

On September 29, close to 300 students from the four Faculties of Medicine in Quebec and from the University of Ottawa were united for a day of workshops and talks on topics ranging from Indigenous health to health of gender minorities, all whilst exploring rural family medicine and maternal and prenatal care. Dr. Guillaume Charbonneau, president of the College of Family Physicians, was the keynote speaker for this event.
