In multilingua l contexts\, such as Montreal\, embracing learners’ repertoires and divers e identities is not only important but fundamental to address social and e thical issues of equity\, diversity\, inclusion and decoloniality in educa tion.\n\nIn this talk\, Angelica Galante will explain the theoretical fram ework of plurilingualism and provide examples of research-informed pedagog ical applications in language programs. She will then present results of c lassroom research she has conducted in the past 10 years with language tea chers and learners of different languages (English\, French\, Spanish\, Ar abic) experimenting with plurilingual pedagogies in three different settin gs: Toronto\, Montreal and São Paulo.\n\nResults consistently show that pl urilingual pedagogies provide a non-hierarchical model of language teachin g which facilitates bottom-up approaches\, and learner and teacher agency. Results also show student empowerment\, development of vocabulary and plu rilingual and pluricultural competence\, criticality\, and empathy\, among many other affordances.\n\nShe will conclude the presentation by discussi ng the affordances of plurilingual pedagogies in university language progr ams\, and how the theoretical framework of plurilingualism requires langua ge teachers to rethink their pedagogical practices and beliefs when teachi ng in superdiverse educational settings.\n\nAbout Angelica Galante\, PhD\, Assistant Professor at ɬÀï·¬\n\nAngelica Galante is an Assist ant Professor in Language Education at ɬÀï·¬\, Director of the Plurilingual Lab\, and President of the Canadian Association of Applied L inguistics.
