T his\, and other similar questions\, will be addressed in a panel discussio n with Joy James\, Rachel Zellars\, and Melanie Leonidas. \n\nMany respons es to recent events concerning sexual violence have emphasized punitive me asures against perpetrators while ignoring the survivors and the backgroun d conditions that make such violence possible. This is challenging for tho se of us who care about responding to sexual violence in a meaningful way as well as transforming our criminal justice system. This event aims to ma ke space to discuss ways in which sexual violence can be addressed from an abolitionist perspective - one which does not aim to punish and incarcera te but heal and transform. The panel will include activists\, practitioner s\, and scholars coming together to engage with questions of alternative j ustice and sexual assault. \n\nOrganized by Students Taking A New Directio n (STAND) For Prison Justice\, the event will consist of a panel discussio n on ways to respond to sexual violence outside of the carceral system/pri son industrial complex. Research assistant Benji Nothwehr has played a coo rdinating role for this event\, helping to line up speakers and shape the themes of the discussion.\n\nMore information is available on Facebook. Th e panel will take place in Chancellor Day Hall Room 100 (Moot Court Room)\ , 3644 Peel St. \n\n \n DTSTART:20180329T210000Z DTEND:20180329T233000Z SUMMARY:Panel on Alternative Justice and Sexual Violence URL:/definetheline/channels/event/panel-alternative-ju stice-and-sexual-violence-286035 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
