In memoriam - Richard Hovey

<p>It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of our dear colleague, Associate Professor Richard Hovey, on November 28, 2025.</p>
<p>Born and raised in Quebec, Richard was an alumnus of ɬÀï·¬, where he earned a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education in 1982 and a Master of Arts in Exercise Physiology. He later completed a PhD in Health Philosophy at the University of Calgary.</p>

Dental screening clinic in Lachine aims to reduce oral health gaps in the West Island

<p>In a collaborative effort to improve access to oral healthcare for underserved populations in Montreal, the Faculty has partnered with the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal (CIUSSS ODIM) to launch a pilot dental screening clinic located at their <i>Point de Service Local</i> (PSL) in Lachine. Designed on the ɬÀï·¬ side by Dr. Elham Emami, Faculty Dean and an expert in integrated primary care, in collaboration with Saadia Marfouk, Director of Vaccination, Screening, Public Health and Community Care of CIUSSS ODIM, and directed on-site by Dr.</p>

Appointment of Dr. Faleh Tamimi as Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Education

As Associate Dean he will support the Faculty's research mission in maintaining its excellence in innovation and graduate training. "Dr. Tamimi's commitment to advancing oral health and dental sciences research and strengthening our dental graduate programs will be instrumental in shaping the future of our faculty" says Dean Elham Emami. </p>

<p>The Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences welcomed alumni back to campus to celebrate ɬÀ﷬’s 2025 Homecoming! On October 24, Drs. Didem Dagdeviren and Nathalie Morin gave a tour of the Undergraduate Teaching Clinic to alumni including the DDS Class of 2000. For some it was a chance to revisit the place where they greeted their first patients, while for others it was the first time they saw our current clinical facilities since the move from the Strathcona Dentistry and Anatomy building in 2014.</p>

New injectable gel shows promise as voice loss treatment

<p><a href="/newsroom/channels/news/new-injectable-gel-shows-promise-voice-loss-treatment-368268">ɬÀï·¬ researchers have engineered a new hydrogel that shows early promise as a treatment for people with vocal cord injuries.</a></p>
<p>Voice loss is often permanent when scarring forms on the vocal cords. Current injectable treatments break down quickly, which can force patients to get repeated procedures that can further damage the delicate tissue.</p>
