Important FRQ-S Updates

Planning to Apply for an FRQ-S Career Award?

If you will be applying for an FRQ-S career award (chercheur-boursier, chercheur boursier-clinicien, chercheur de mérite) this fall, or are considering applying, please inform Dr. Schwartzman immediately, if not already done (kevin.schwartzman [at] mcgill.ca). This is essential in planning internal reviews and departmental support materials, required for all applications.

We do not yet have the deadlines for registration/notice of intent and for full applications.

Important Changes to the FRQ-S Application and Review Process

Narrative CV Applicants will be required to submit a Narrative CV rather than the Canadian Common CV previously used. Further information is available through the and . The Narrative CV is a relatively free-form, 5-page document where applicants highlight the accomplishments, outputs, and milestones most relevant to their application.
Updated Evaluation Grids

The evaluation grids used by reviewers have changed somewhat, although the broad outlines remain similar to those used in the past. It will be essential to consult the updated grids when preparing an application. These grids were shared by the FRQ-S but are not yet posted on their website. You can access them below.

Changes to Seniority Calculations (First-Time Applicants Only)

For first-time applicants only: The scheme used to attribute seniority/years of experience has also changed somewhat. Clinician-scientist applicants now have 4 years (not 6) from their last university degree (e.g., MSc, PhD) or last clinical specialty certification (whichever is later) before the clock starts to count, i.e., 1 year of experience, 2 years of experience, etc. Applicants with 0–3 years of experience remain eligible for the Junior 1 competition. The updated guidance document can be found below.

Questions about this are best addressed to the FRQ-S itself. It is recommended that applicants wait until the competition officially opens before contacting the FRQ-S, at which time appropriate contact information will become available on the FRQ-S website as part of the applicant guidance.
