Expert: Technology and gender-based violence

European non-profit AI Forensics  this week on how massive, organized user networks are spreading and monetizing non-consensual intimate images, including child sexual abuse material, on a popular private messaging app. The report, which focused on cross-border networks in Italy and Spain, also notes that content circulates across several well-known platforms.

Emmanuelle Vaast is the Desautels 1 Chair in Digital Technology Management, Professor of Information Systems and Associate Dean of Research at the Desautels Faculty of Management.  

She can discuss the scope of tech-facilitated gender-based violence and efforts toward prevention, as well as online privacy, hacking risks and mitigations for users. She can also speak to the regulation of emerging technologies and platforms and situate the issue in a Canadian context.
