 easing evidence suggests that a company’s orientation toward social respon
 sibility makes it more attractive to new employees\, but it remains unclea
 r whether such advantages extend to later stages of the employment lifecyc
 le. Using detailed microdata from the Venture for America program\, we fin
 d that prospective employees significantly favor companies with a social r
 esponsibility orientation in attraction and selection decisions\, but not 
 in attrition decisions. In both attraction and attrition decisions\, femal
 e employees are significantly more likely than male employees to favor soc
 ial responsibility-oriented employers. We discuss implications for the rel
 ationship between corporate social responsibility and strategic human capi
 tal.\n
