Trump tariffs induce uncertainty

Canada fared better many countries when US President Donald Trump announced sweeping tariffs on his so-called Liberation Day. But in this time of tariff turbulence, stability is a rare and fleeting commodity. And we never know when we’ll end up in the crosshairs of a presidential tariff tantrum.

“It has been shown time and again that you really can’t rely on what he’s saying,” says Preetika Joshi, and Assistant Professor of Accounting at ɬ﷬ Desautels. “Maybe we’ll be fine in four years from now, but I think the path there will be turbulent. We just have to fasten our seatbelt and, honestly, nobody really knows what the next weeks, months are going to bring.”
