The Department of Economics is proud to announce that Professor Jean-Marie Dufour has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Mike McCracken Award for econometric statistics from the Canadian Economic Association. This prestigious award recognizes Professor Dufour's groundbreaking contributions to the field of econometrics, particularly his pioneering work in resampling and simulation-based methods, identification-robust methods, and the analysis of causal relationships.

Department Welcomes New Associate Professor Maggie E.C. Jones

The Department of Economics is pleased to announce that Professor Maggie E.C. Jones will be joining our faculty as an Associate Professor in August 2025. Professor Jones is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Emory University and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. She holds a PhD in Economics from Queen's University (2018) and has established herself as a leading scholar in economic history, labor economics, and the economics of education.

Sonia Laszlo's promotion to Full Professor

We are happy to announce that Professor Sonia Laszlo has been promoted to Full Professor effective July 1, 2024. Professor Laszlo has served the Department of Economics as an Assistant Professor of Economics from 2003-2010, and as Associate Professor since 2010. She has served in numerous administrative roles including Director of the Institute for the Study of International Development.

Professor Nicolas Gendron-Carrier Receives Tenure

The Department of Economics is pleased to announce that Professor Nicolas Gendron-Carrier has been granted tenure. Professor Gendron-Carrier joined ɬ�﷬ in 2018 and has established himself as a leading researcher in urban and labour economics. His work examines interactions between economic agents in cities at localized scale as well as the impacts of transportation infrastructure on urban development. We congratulate Professor Gendron-Carrier on this well-deserved recognition of his contributions to research, teaching, and service.

Francisco Ruge-Murcia awarded the Senior Houblon-Norman Fellowship from the Bank of England for 2025-2026

This prestigious fellowship is awarded by the Bank of England to a tenured full or chaired professor to promote research into and disseminate knowledge and understanding of the working, interaction and function of financial business institutions in the UK and elsewhere and the economic conditions affecting them. The Houblon-Norman Fellowship was established in 1944 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Bank of England and it is named after the first Governor of the Bank, Sir John Houblon, and the Governor at the time of the anniversary, Montagu Norman.
