I would like to personally thank everyone who contributed to ɬÀï·¬24. On March 12, our annual day of giving, the Faculty of Engineering received a total of 751 donations! I am so touched by the generosity of our community. I know how motivating it is for our students, faculty and staff to receive your support.

This issue of the Dean’s Report brings you stories from members of our ɬÀï·¬ community who have chosen to leave a gift to the Faculty of Engineering in their will. Legacy gifts make a real difference to our university and knowing your plans helps us better prepare. Former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor John Dealy, leaves an important legacy at ɬÀï·¬. His daughter, Pamela Dealy, explains getting to know another side of her father.

Susan Bishop, daughter of alumnus John Bishop (BEng’47), reveals her father’s deep love of the environment and his lifetime goal to protect the land he loved, investing his time and money to ensure a bright future for us all.

Jerry Lieu (BArch’73) recently donated a significant amount to the Peter Guo-hua School of Architecture to support their Master’s program. Jerry thinks we have one of the best architecture programs in the country and that his time at ɬÀï·¬ had much to do with a long and successful career.

All these stories tell us the important role ɬÀï·¬ has played in the lives of our fellow community members. How teaching and studying in the Faculty creates a connection with a place, and a philosophy that upholds and supports that place.

Permettez-moi tout d’abord de remercier tous ceux qui ont contribué à ɬÀï·¬24 cette année. Le 12 mars dernier, à l’occasion de notre journée annuelle de dons, la Faculté de génie a récolté un total de 751 dons! Cette générosité de la part de notre communauté me touche énormément. Je sais à quel point votre appui est motivant pour nos élèves, notre corps professoral et notre personnel.

Ce numéro du Rapport de la doyenne vous présente l’histoire de quelques membres de la communauté mcgilloise qui ont choisi de faire un legs à la Faculté de génie par testament. Les dons en héritage ont un impact concret sur l’Université, et être informé de vos intentions nous permet de planifier nos actions. C’est pourquoi nous offrons dès maintenant une bourse de 3000 $ aux étudiants qui éprouvent des difficultés financières si vous nous communiquez votre projet de faire un don testamentaire à ɬÀï·¬. L’ancien doyen de la Faculté de génie, le professeur John Dealy, a légué un héritage important à ɬÀï·¬. Sa fille, Pamela Dealy, raconte qu’elle a pu découvrir une facette méconnue de son père suite à son départ.

Susan Bishop, fille de l’ancien diplômé John Bishop (BEng’47), décrit l’amour profond que son père portait à l’environnement, et son engagement constant à protéger le territoire qu’il chérissait, en y investissant son temps et ses ressources financières pour assurer un avenir meilleur pour tous.

Jerry Lieu (BArch’73) a récemment fait un don important à l’École d’architecture Peter Guo-hua en appui à son programme de maîtrise. Selon Jerry, ɬÀï·¬ offre l’un des meilleurs programmes d’architecture du pays. Son passage à l’Université a beaucoup contribué à la longue et florissante carrière qu’il a connue.

Ces récits mettent en évidence l’importance cruciale de ɬÀï·¬ pour les membres de notre communauté. En effet, étudier et enseigner à la Faculté crée un sentiment d’appartenance à ce lieu, et engendre une philosophie qui veille à le protéger et à le renforcer.
