Indust ry produces much of what improves our quality of life\, yet at the same ti me it can undermine the very ecological foundations that make life possibl e (and at an industrial scale). We will begin by looking at what industry is currently doing\, what it could do quickly and what it could do if we p rioritized our intelligence rather than budget constraints. We will then e xplore the transition that is already underway and imagine some different\ , and hopeful\, futures.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\nProfessor Steve Evans - Un iversity of Cambridge\n\nProfessor Steve Evans is a leading researcher in sustainable manufacturing whose career spans industry\, academia\, and nat ional policy. After engineering roles at Marconi\, Plessey\, and Martin‑Ba ker\, he joined Cranfield University in 1988\, where he advanced early UK research in eco‑design\, WEEE take‑back logistics\, sustainable business m odels\, and multidisciplinary engineering. He became the UK’s first Profes sor of Life Cycle Engineering in 1998 and later moved to the University of Cambridge\, where he established the national Centre for Industrial Susta inability. Evans works closely with companies to improve manufacturing per formance and has contributed to major policy efforts through advisory role s with Parliament\, government foresight groups\, and industry panels\, wh ile also co‑founding several cleantech start‑ups based on his research.\n DTSTART:20260514T190000Z DTEND:20260514T210000Z LOCATION:Faculty Club\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0E5\, 3450 rue McTavish SUMMARY:Sustainability & Industry: what next and what’s next?
