Physicians requiring acc reditation\, please complete the Evaluation Form and send to admincoord.eb oh [at] mcgill.ca\n\nNandita Perumal\, PhD\n\nAssistant Professor of Epide miology\n Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics\n Arnold School of Pu blic Health | University of South Carolina\n\nWHEN: Monday\, November 25\, 2024\, from 4 to 5 p.m.\n WHERE: Hybrid | SPGH\, 2001 ɬÀï·¬ College\, Rm 1140 &\n 5252 boul. de Maisonneuve - 3rd floor\, Kitchen | Zoom\n Note: Nand ita Perumal will be presenting In-Person at the SPGH\n\nAbstract\n\nIn 201 5\, the World Health Organization recommended that all pregnant women with HIV initiate lifelong combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) to prevent mother-to-child transmission and sexual transmission of HIV. With increas ing availability and administration of ART\, approximately 14 million chil dren are estimated to be exposed to HIV but uninfected globally. This talk will present research from an observational cohort of HIV-exposed but uni nfected children in Dar es Salaam\, Tanzania\, and leverage the natural he terogeneity in the timing of ART initiation during pregnancy to evaluate t he implications for infant and child outcomes.\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nA t the completion of this talk\, attendees will be able to:\n\n\n Understand the epidemiology of HIV-exposure in pregnancy and among young children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)\;\n Understand the application of epidemiologic methods for evaluating long-term consequences in young chil dren\;\n Recognize the strengths and limitations of contexts in which studi es are conducted and contexts where the burden is high.\n\n\nSpeaker Bio\n \nNandita Perumal is an assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiol ogy and Biostatistics at the University of South Carolina. Her research re sponds to the persistent burden of adverse maternal and newborn perinatal outcomes and suboptimal growth and neurodevelopment in young children thro ugh three main foci: (i) investigating the causes and consequences of adve rse outcomes in the perinatal period\; (ii) testing interventions in nutri tion as a lever to prevent adverse perinatal outcomes and improve nutritio nal deficits in the most vulnerable children\, as a means of improving lon g-term outcomes\; and (iii) building research capacity through equitable p artnerships\, with a focus on rigorous methods and diversity of scientific perspectives. She holds an MPH and PhD in Epidemiology from the Universit y of Toronto\, a BSc in Human Nutrition from ɬÀï·¬\, and compl eted her postdoctoral training in the Department of Global Health and Popu lation at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health\, where she is a Vis iting Scientist.\n\n \n DTSTART:20241125T210000Z DTEND:20241125T220000Z SUMMARY:Prenatal Timing of Antiretroviral Therapy Initiation and Growth and Developmental Outcomes Among HIV-Exposed\, Uninfected Young Children in T anzania URL:/epi-biostat-occh/channels/event/prenatal-timing-a ntiretroviral-therapy-initiation-and-growth-and-developmental-outcomes-amo ng-hiv-360971 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
