Alexandra Massicotte, MD, Unit Director at the Department of Family Medicine’s Vaudreuil-Soulanges U-FMG, has won the Emerging Practitioner Award (catégorie Relève) from the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ). This distinction recognizes early-career physicians who demonstrate outstanding leadership, innovation, community engagement, and commitment to advancing medical practice.

Dr. Massicotte’s work reflects a deep dedication to patient-centred care and community-based medical education. As Unit Director, she has played a key role in the development and growth of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges U-FMG, helping to strengthen access to high-quality primary care while fostering an environment that supports the next generation of family physicians.

“For me, being a doctor means practicing a deeply human profession—doing work where every action and every decision is guided by values that matter to me: empathy, justice, fairness, and a commitment to doing things well. It’s not a “calling” in the overused sense of the term, as if commitment must necessarily mean sacrifice or total self-denial. Rather, it’s a way of being in the world—a way of placing my convictions at the heart of my daily life and contributing, in my own way, to a more just and humane system. Medicine is not just what I do; it has become an essential part of who I am, a space where my values take shape and find full expression through care and human connection.”

Her leadership exemplifies how academic family medicine can respond to the evolving needs of patients and communities while maintaining a strong commitment to social impact.

Congratulations, Dr. Massicotte, on this well-deserved honour!
