Message from the Chair: August 2025

The 2025 Fall semester has begun! I hope everyone in the Department had a chance to take some well-earned vacation over the summer to start this academic year will fresh energy. We wish a warm welcome to all the residents who started at ɬŔ﷬’s family medicine groups on July 1, and to all the students who are starting master’s or PhD degrees in the Department of Family Medicine now! To showcase some of the exciting events of our Department’s 50th anniversary year, we have released a special 2024-2025 Annual Report. You can read it here.

Building on the intellectual exuberance of Academic Day on May 30 (please Save the Date for the next year's edition which will take place on May 29, 2026, location TBD), I would like to share with you the , authored by our Department’s own Dr. Roland Grad. You may also be interested in the   which focused on research.

In keeping with our Department’s adoption of Joyce’s Principle (at our Executive Committee meeting of September 2023), I am pleased to share that our Department’s Prof. Richard Budgell was a member of the research advisory board for “Answering the Call: Strategies to Increase the Number of Indigenous Physicians in Canada”. .

Coming up on September 18 from 12.30-1.30 pm, our Department’s Prof. Brittany Jock will be presenting a research seminar entitled “Centering Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Health Promotion: Insights from a Kanien’kehà:ka-Grounded Study”. You can register here.

Another upcoming event is our annual Department retreat which will be fully on-line on October 23 (AM) and October 24 (AM) I hope to see many of you virtually there!
