Her dissertation addressed structural driv ers of HIV infection like poverty\, lack of education and gender inequalit y. Her research explored how existing social protection programs in Botswa na could be made more inclusive of the HIV-vulnerable group of unemployed and out-of-school young women. She systematically reviewed best practices of HIV-sensitive social protection in East and Southern Africa. A qualitat ive exploratory study explored barriers and solutions in Botswana (in pres s). The regional and local evidence contributed alternative policy and pra ctice options that young women and frontline service providers assessed an d prioritized in a modified Policy Delphi. The findings reveal extensive s ocioeconomic disadvantage of unemployed and out-of-school young women in B otswana and ample policy space to make existing programs more HIV-sensitiv e.\n\nPresenter: Ran van der Wal\n\nSubject: Structural Drivers of HIV Inf ection (Oral PhD Defense)\n\nDate: Tuesday October 31\, 9 am to 12 pm\n\nW here: 5858 Côte-des-Neiges\, Suite 307 (in-person only)\n\nPhD supervisor: Neil Andersson\n\nPhD advisory committee: Anne Cockcroft\, Isabelle Vedel \, Mira Johri\n\nNo registration is required.\n\nRan’s research was suppor ted by A Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship—CIHR\; Fonds de recherche du Q uébec—santé doctoral scholarship\; Lloyd Carr Harris Fellowship—Faculty of Medicine recruitment scholarship\; Réseau de recherche en santé des popul ations du Québec – conference and publication awards\; ɬÀï·¬ Global Healt h fellowship and grants\; ɬÀï·¬ Faculty of Medicine Graduate Mobility awa rds\; Department of Family Medicine awards.\n DTSTART:20231031T130000Z DTEND:20231031T160000Z SUMMARY:Oral PhD Defense for Ran van der Wal URL:/familymed/channels/event/oral-phd-defense-ran-van -der-wal-352212 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
