Family Medicine Academic Day: Celebrating Legacy, Showcasing Innovation

On May 30, 2025, the Department of Family Medicine hosted its inaugural Academic Day at the Hotel Bonaventure in Montreal, bringing together residents, graduate students, researchers, and clinicians to showcase the breadth and depth of scholarship in primary care. Held in collaboration with the Family Medicine Postgraduate Residency Program, the Family Medicine Graduate Students Society (FMGSS) and the ɬ�﷬ Primary Care Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN), the event also served as the culminating celebration of the Department’s 50th anniversary campaign.

We have wonderful news to share with you. Once again we have a great deal to be proud of in the Department of Family Medicine.

The results from the Fonds de recherche Santé-Quebec (FRQS) have been announced and we would like to congratulate the members of our department who have been successful. These competitions are very competitive and few are actually successful in obtaining these salary support awards.

Department of Family Medicine well represented in newest Health Science Inquiry 2014

There was a high representation of students and faculty of Family Medicine in the newest issue of the graduate student journal, Health Science Inquiry. Congratulations to Cristina Longo, Doaa Farid and Hani Badran who were all reviewers along with Pierre Pluye. Alex Fletcher was a reporter for this issue and original submissions were published for Vladimir Khanassov, Maedeh Khayyat Kholghi (on the MSc program) and Emily Parkinson.

In June, Dr. Isabelle Vedel was awarded the New Investigator Salary Award: Winter 2013 Priority Announcement - Community-based Primary Health Care - by the CIHR. This award that entails a contribution made to outstanding candidates that are conducting independent research, will go towards Dr. Vedel’s project on Alzheimer’s disease.
