Marlene is a graduate of the Jewish General Hospital School of Nursing. Early in her career at the JGH, she worked in the post-anesthesia recovery room and on various medical units, developing a strong foundation in acute care. Her first clinical specialty was diabetes care.

While raising her young family, Marlene worked part-time throughout the hospital as part of the float team and became deeply involved in the Nursing School Alumni Association.

In 1981, after completing a B.A. in Community Nursing and Health Education, she was appointed nurse clinician in the newly created Community Geriatric Assessment Unit鈥攁 joint initiative of Allied Jewish Community Services and the Jewish General Hospital. The two-year pilot program ultimately evolved into today鈥檚 outpatient services within the Division of Geriatric Medicine. During this period, Marlene became a founding member of the Canadian Association of Gerontological Nurses, contributing to a rapidly expanding field rich with teaching and networking opportunities.

After 16 years with the Geriatric Assessment Unit, she joined the 涩里番 Jewish General Hospital Memory Clinic at its inception and remained there for an additional 16 years, until her retirement in 2013.

Marlene has long been engaged with the Cummings Jewish Centre for Seniors as both a user of services and a former board member, including many years on its Social Service Committee. She continues to serve her community through the Patient Partners Committee of the CIUSSS Centre-West, the Humanization of Care Committee at the JGH, and the CHW Nurses Council. She also volunteers in the geriatric clinics at the Jewish General Hospital.

Marlene has been a caregiver within her family and herself a patient at the JGH.
