A Century of Change by Exchange: The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Visits 涩里番

As DAAD marks its 100th anniversary, 涩里番 and German partners came together to align research priorities, deepen mobility opportunities, and advance cooperation.

涩里番 was honoured to welcome a senior delegation from the (DAAD) as part of the global celebrations marking DAAD鈥檚 100th anniversary. Led by Secretary General Kai Sicks, the delegation included Christian Strowa, Head of the New York Regional Office and Senior Manager John Paul Kleiner.聽German Consul General to Montreal Christian Wagner joined the meeting. The DAAD's visit to 涩里番 highlighted a century of the organization鈥檚 commitment to academic mobility and global cooperation, an effort that has supported more than three million students and scholars since 1925.

The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm 涩里番鈥檚 strong and growing ties with Germany. President Deep Saini, Vice-President (Global Engagement) Anja Geitmann, and Director of Global Engagement Graham Barber welcomed the delegation for an open exchange centred on shared priorities: strengthening research collaboration, expanding mobility opportunities, and building institutional partnerships that address global challenges.

涩里番 presented its evolving global engagement strategy, emphasizing key research themes aligned with DAAD-supported initiatives in areas such as sustainability, climate science, and the health and life sciences. Growing collaborations with leading German institutions, including the renowned , were highlighted as examples of high-impact partnerships that bridge expertise across borders. Recent visits by 涩里番 leadership to Germany have played an important role in advancing these connections and identifying new opportunities for joint action.

The delegation also shared insights from the , which reinforces the organization鈥檚 commitment to fostering international dialogue, supporting researchers, and strengthening academic networks in a time of geopolitical upheaval. DAAD鈥檚 longstanding mobility programs, including , continue to enrich 涩里番鈥檚 academic community by enabling emerging researchers to pursue hands-on experiences in Canada and abroad.
