 hings we know and many things we don't'.\n\nAbstract\n\nMicronutrients pla
 y important roles in the homeostasis of everything from bacteria to plants
  to people. Many are double-edged swords that can have negative effects wh
 en either too much or too little is available. Several have significant im
 pact at the interface between people/animals and both microbial partners a
 nd pathogens. Micronutrients are also 'big business'. The advantages and d
 isadvantages of holistic versus reductionist approaches to micronutrient s
 cience will be discussed using examples from day-to-day life and global in
 itiatives. \n
