Dr. Sarit Assouline appointed JGH Chief of Hematology

Dr. Sarit Assouline has been named Chief of the Division of Hematology at the JGH, in addition to her current roles as a Senior Investigator in the Lady Davis Institute at the JGH, Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine and Oncology at ɬ﷬, and a Full Member of the ɬ﷬ Centre for Translational Research in Cancer.

Dr. Assouline completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Toronto, and in hematology and oncology at ɬ﷬. She also earned a Master’s degree in epidemiology and biostatistics at ɬ﷬, and is a Chercheuse clinicienne de mérite of the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé(ϳ).

Her research program, which focuses on the clinical development of novel therapies for treating leukemia and lymphoma, draws on her expertise in designing and conducting early-phase clinical trials for these diseases. In addition, she has an interest in epidemiological and translational research into new approaches of treating these two diseases.

Dr. Assouline succeeds Dr. Hans Knecht who, after 10 years as Chief, is retiring and moving to Switzerland. Dr. Vicky Tagalakis, Physician-in-Chief in the JGH Department of Medicine, thanked Dr. Knecht for his service, noting that he “has made significant contributions to laboratory medicine and has been admired for his unwavering dedication to patient care.”
