Pearson Chair in Civil Society and Public Policy\, in collaboration with the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance and Professor Kevin M cDonough\, ɬ﷬ Faculty of Education.  \n\n\n\n The event is o pen to all – no registration required.  \n\n  \n\n\n\n Abstract \n\n\n\n “Dra wing on material from my recent book\, Networks of Trust\, I argue that co lleges and \n universities impose hidden social costs on some of their stud ents through the very \n process of educating them. I focus on the role edu cation plays in shaping the set of \n sources of information that students trust (their “informational trust networks”) and the \n grounds they have f or deciding what kinds of sources to trust (their “informational \n ideolog y”). While one effect of this process is to improve students’ capacities f or \n knowledge\, it nevertheless pulls some students away from the communi ties in which \n they grew up\, communities who occupy and are held togethe r by different trust \n networks.
