 atic functions – the secret sauce of workplace learning\n\nDr. Edvin Schei
  is professor of family medicine and medical education at University of Be
 rgen\, Norway. He is the Chair of medical professionalism at his universit
 y and continues to work clinically in family medicine.\n\nAfter graduating
  in 1984\, Dr. Schei found himself ill prepared for the aspects of doctori
 ng that deal with clinical uncertainty and people’s suffering and «non-fix
 able» problems. Seeking deeper understanding\, skills and tools for his cl
 inical work\, he has introduced insights from philosophy\, psychology and 
 leadership theory into family medicine and undergraduate education\, with 
 an emphasis on listening skills\, emotional awareness\, and practical wisd
 om. His current research is focused on medical students’ social learning e
 nvironment during clinical placements.\n\nDr. Schei has published approxim
 ately 50 peer reviewed articles and 6 books\, with themes that touch upon 
 human vulnerability\, understanding\, and flourishing. He was a visiting s
 cholar at the IHSE (Centre for medical education) during the academic year
