In principle\, Canadians are governed under notions of vote r equality\, “effective representation” of diverse communities\, and equal treatment of political candidates. However\, the chronic under-representa tion of women\, racial minorities and Aboriginals in our elected instituti ons\, alleged voter suppression tactics\, and electoral boundaries that di lute the votes of some Canadians suggest we still have far to go in making these ideas a practical reality. At this workshop\, we will hear from ac ademics and practitioners about the sources of under-representation and un responsiveness and propose solutions for greater equality and fairness.   Registration & program: democraticdeficits-deficitsdemocratiques.eventbri te.ca This event is being held in conjunction with the Trudeau Foundation 's 10th Annual Conference and Electoral Law: The Virtuous or Vicious Circl e of Theory and Practice.
