 ssor Adelle Blackett for a talk on the International Labour Organization.

 604\n\nSummary\n\nFounded in 1919\, and headquartered in Geneva\, Switzerl
 and\, the International Labour Organization (ILO) is the first and oldest 
 specialized agency of the League of Nations and the United Nations\, with 
 a mandate to advance social and economic justice through setting internati
 onal labour standards.\n\nIn August 1940\, with Switzerland surrounded by 
 troops of the Axis powers\, the ILO accepted an invitation from the Govern
 ment of Canada to relocate to ɬ�﷬. Forty staff members trans
 ferred to Montreal\, working from ɬ�﷬ until 1948.\n\nAbout the speaker
 \n\nProfessor Adelle Blackett\, BCL’94\, LLB’94\, is the Canada Research C
 hair in Transnational Labour Law and Development at the Faculty of Law. In
  winter 2019\, she taught the “Transnational Futures of International Labo
 ur Law” course to commemorate the ILO’s centenary. She has also served as 
 an ILO expert on standard setting and on labour law reform.\n\nHer publica
 tions include Research Handbook on Transnational Labour Law (2015) and Eve
 ryday Transgressions: Domestic Workers’ Transnational Challenge to Interna
 tional Labour Law (2019).\n\nAbout the James ɬ�﷬ Society\n\nFounded in 
 1975\, the James ɬ�﷬ Society seeks to foster interest and appreciation 
 of ɬ�﷬'s history and personalities\, which are interpreted b
 roadly to include current activities and impending developments - that is 
 both past history and history in the making.\n
