Loïc Binan, PhD, joined ɬÀï·¬ in 2025, where he will be an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Genetics, and the Principal Investigator of the Binan lab. Prior to ɬÀï·¬, Prof. Binan obtained his PhD at Université de Montréal, and his Postdoc at Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. He joins the Ludmer Centre as part of the Single-Cell Genomics Brain Initiative.

Located at the Lady Davis Institute, Prof. Binan aims to develop technologies to investigate the mechanisms by which gene networks control the self-organization of cells into complex 3-D tissues during development, as well as the modifications to this organization that take place in disease. His lab will also develop the technology to collect new types of data as well as algorithms to analyze them. The techniques used in his lab will include gene editing (CRISPR), spatial transcriptomics, single cell RNA sequencing, microscopy, and computational methods for image analysis and statistics.

Given the multidisciplinary nature of his research expertise and interest, Prof. Binan is also an associate member of the Integrated Program in Neuroscience and the School of Biomedical Sciences. He is also a part of the , as well as a researcher in the Quantitative Life Sciences interdisciplinary PhD program.
