BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 PRODID:-//132.216.98.100//NONSGML kigkonsult.se iCalcreator 2.20.4// BEGIN:VEVENT UID:20250730T214252EDT-1729fabISG@132.216.98.100 DTSTAMP:20250731T014252Z DESCRIPTION:Title: The Siegel-Weil Formula and Quantum Gravity as an Averag e.\n\nAbstract: I will explore the idea that certain theories of gravity a re not traditional quantum theories\, but are instead averages over ensemb les of quantum theories.  Remarkably\, this idea can be explored quantitat ively using ideas from number theory.  I will consider the average over fr ee boson conformal field theories in two dimensions\, and compute the genu s g partition function using the Siegel-Weil formula.  The result is a rea l analytic Eisenstein series which can be interpreted as the sum over geom etries in a certain exotic - but in a sense exactly solvable - theory of q uantum gravity.  The techniques used are similar to those used to study hi gh dimensional sphere packing by averaging over spaces of lattices\, sugge sting an analogy between semi-classical gravity and a theory of random lat tices (or sphere packings) in high dimensions.  This talk is a review of w ork done in collaboration with E.
