Construction starts: Bronfman Building – Modification of classroom locks

ɬÀï·¬ has mandated Les Entreprises NR Brosseau to carry out Project 18-010 Lot 3 at the Bronfman Building on the Downtown Campus. The project involves modifying classroom locks to enhance classroom safety and allow doors to be locked from inside the classroom, either electronically or mechanically, in the event of an emergency.

The work includes the modification of classroom locks, including the installation of electrified door hardware and lockdown buttons. These buttons are part of ɬÀ﷬’s classroom safety measures and are designed to support emergency response procedures in situations requiring doors to be secured. Scope of work

  • Installation of electrified door hardware and lockdown buttons.
  • Installation of new electrical and data distribution.
  • Work will take place in the following rooms:
    • Basement: 001, 002, 011, 045 and 046, including ceiling work to feed classroom 151.
    • Ground floor: 151.
    • 2nd floor: 205, 210 and 245.

Impact on occupants

Impacts on occupants will be managed to minimize disruptions.

  • Classroom access: Classrooms will not be accessible during the work.
  • Noise: Demolition noise is expected after May 1; however, this work will be performed before regular building hours. Minor drilling noise is also anticipated.
  • Corridor work: Work above suspended ceilings in corridors is expected for electrical and data distribution. Temporary enclosures will be used.
  • After-hours work: Work related to data cabling installation, testing, and security device configuration may continue after hours or during study break periods following August 2026.

Safety measures

All work will be carried out in accordance with ɬÀï·¬ safety standards. Building users are asked to respect construction signage, temporary enclosures, and any instructions provided on site.
