For generations to come, 2020 will be remembered as the year an invisible virus brought the world to its knees.

But as challenging as the pandemic lockdown has been, it’s also shone a light on the incredible resilience, ingenuity and community spirit of people all around the globe. And the ɬ�﷬ community is no exception.

In the space of just two weeks, following the Quebec government’s announcement of a province-wide shutdown, the University managed to successfully transition more than 2,000 courses to a remote learning format—with students quick to adapt.

Two weeks. That’s all the time ɬ�﷬ staff, administrators and professors had to transition some 2,000 courses to remote learning in order to complete the Winter semester.

When the Quebec government announced the province-wide shutdown in mid-March, ɬ�﷬ had two weeks, during which classes were suspended, to prepare for the new physical distancing reality. By March 30, the courses were up and running remotely.

In March, the home stretch of her BCom degree, Yuliya Novosad anticipated a job offer from an I.T. company.

But in the blink of an eye, the world changed dramatically with the Covid19 pandemic and she never heard back.

Despite the setback, Novosad, who majored in international management, sounds upbeat and has come up with a new game plan. She plans to acquire additional skills and to reach out to employers to make connections – more for informational-type interviews.

The Government of Canada announced yesterday the creation of the COVID-19 Immunity Task Force. This major two-year initiative will mobilize the country’s research capacity to measure the scope and scale of SARS-CoV-2 immunity across Canada. The ultimate aim is to provide decision makers with the best science to manage the epidemic.
