Kant asked “What can I know?”\, “What must I do?”\, and “What may I hope?”\; q uestions that remain central in philosophy. In psychiatry\, related questi ons arise about the nature of psychiatric diagnosis\, the causes of mental illness\, and the appropriate interventions for these conditions. It may be useful to contrast “Classical” and “Critical” approaches to questions a bout psychiatric diagnosis\, etiology\, and intervention\; an “Integrative ” approach that draws on the best aspects of these positions seems wisest. A number of “paradigm shifts” for psychiatry have recently been proposed\ , including by those working on clinical neuroscience\, public mental heal th\, evidence-based psychiatry\, and positive psychiatry\; instead an incr emental and integrated approach to advancing the field may be optimal.\n\n The webinar is free but registration is required: https://www.philosophyof psychiatry.com\n DTSTART:20221117T170000Z DTEND:20221117T183000Z SUMMARY:Dan Stein (University of Cape Town)\, 'Problems of Living: Practisi ng Psychiatry With Wisdom' URL:/philosophy/channels/event/dan-stein-university-ca pe-town-problems-living-practising-psychiatry-wisdom-343440 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
