Yet there is significant disagreement about the nature\, extent\, and frequency of these changes. Moreover\, as DBS is being investigated for use as a treatment for a wider variety of p sychiatric conditions\, questions about the relationships among treatment\ , diagnosis\, and self become increasingly important\, given the centralit y of self-related characteristics to these conditions. In this talk\, I ai m to broaden the discussion about DBS and the self by considering a relate d phenomenon – memory loss in people treated with electroconvulsive therap y (ECT). I show that\, with both DBS and ECT\, it is important to understa nd not just the “direct” effects of the treatment\, but also the broader s ocial narratives around these treatments and the conditions they are used to treat.\n\nThe webinar is free but registration is required: https://www .philosophyofpsychiatry.com\n DTSTART:20230126T170000Z DTEND:20230126T183000Z SUMMARY:Robyn Bluhm (Michigan State University)\, 'Deep Brain Stimulation\, Electroconvulsive Therapy\, and the Self' URL:/philosophy/channels/event/robyn-bluhm-michigan-st ate-university-deep-brain-stimulation-electroconvulsive-therapy-and-self-3 45542 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
