Alt hough it may seem counterintuitive to think of one's psychotic illness as a 'friend\,' I have found that my relationship with schizophrenia bears si milarities to other important relationships in my life. My remarks will ad dress how discovering and nurturing this life-long relationship—that is\, 'making friends with my schizophrenia'—has helped me find a life worth liv ing. In this talk I will describe how I experience psychotic symptoms\, th e trajectory of my illness\, how the use of state-sponsored force has thre atened to destabilize fundamental aspects of my autonomy and identity in m y journey toward recovery\, and how the integration of medication and talk therapy has brought me to where I am today such that I no longer view mys elf as deeply at odds with my illness. \n\nThe webinar is free but registr ation is required: https://www.philosophyofpsychiatry.com\n DTSTART:20230406T160000Z DTEND:20230406T173000Z SUMMARY:Elyn Saks (University of Southern California)\, 'Schizophrenia and I: Making Peace with my Mental Illness' URL:/philosophy/channels/event/elyn-saks-university-so uthern-california-schizophrenia-and-i-making-peace-my-mental-illness-34587 6 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
