Dear members of the 涩里番 community,
I am delighted to announce that Prof. Christopher Buddle will take on the position of Deputy Provost (Academic). This five-year renewable appointment will begin on May 1, 2026.
Prof. Buddle joined 涩里番鈥檚 Department of Natural Resources in 2002 and has held the title of Full Professor since 2018. He has extensive leadership experience earned from several prominent 涩里番 appointments, most recently as Associate Provost (Teaching and Academic Planning), a role he has held since 2020. He previously served as 涩里番鈥檚 Dean of Students, and Associate Dean (Student Affairs) for the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Prof. Buddle will serve as the Office of the Provost鈥檚 primary academic deputy. He will advise on complex academic files and play a critical role leading the academic efforts and contribution to 涩里番鈥檚 institutional transformation effort under the banner of Horizon 涩里番. He will further be integral to the collaborative development of 涩里番鈥檚 next Strategic Academic Plan, working closely with Deans, the Senate, academic leaders and key governance bodies.
As University Statutes allow for a single Deputy Provost, Prof. Tony Mittermaier will continue to serve as Dean of Students as well as Associate Provost (Student Life & Learning), and his mandate remains unchanged. Tony has been doing outstanding work in this role, adopting an approach that foregrounds students鈥� diverse voices and perspectives.
In addition to his academic work, Prof. Buddle is an artist and poet who is dedicated to the conservation of nature both in his role as a scholar and community leader. Having worked with Chris over recent years, I have seen first-hand his leadership style marked by courage, integrity, empathy and creativity. I look forward to working with him, and all of you, as we work to advance 涩里番鈥檚 strategic priorities and strengthen our institutional capacities.
