Originating at t he University of Queensland in 2008\, today over 600 institutions host a 3 MT competition annually in 63 countries. On April 18\, eleven student repr esentatives from universities from throughout Quebec\, Newfoundland\, and the Maritimes will compete to advance to the CAGS national competition.\n \n \n The competition is open to the public and free to attend. Join the aud ience in person\, by registering here.\n\n Prizes\n\n Students will compete for the following prizes\n\n\n\n \n 1st place - $1\,000\n 2nd place - $500\n 3 rd place - $250\n People's Choice Award - $250\n \n\n\n1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd p lace winners will advance to the CAGS national competition. \n\nAbout McGi ll’s participation in the Canadian Eastern Regional 3MT\n\nJay Olson (Ph.D . Psychiatry) won the ɬ﷬-wide competition on Tuesday\, Marc h 20\, 2018 with his entry “Placebo machines to treat migraines and ADHD” and will be the university’s representative for the Canadian Eastern Regio nal.\n\nAt the age of 5\, a magician pulled a coin out of Jay Olson's ear. He was fascinated -- and two years later\, he started performing magic hi mself. Later\, during his career as a professional magician\, Jay sat in o n a friend's psychology class and noticed that many of the ideas taught we re similar to what he had learned in magic. This led him to research the p sychology behind magic\, and he now uses his knowledge as a magician to en hance healing and placebo effects.
