Twenty-four ɬ�﷬ researchers have been named to the 2025 Highly Cited Researchers™ list, placing them among the top researchers worldwide whose work has demonstrated rigorous scholarship and broad and significant global influence in their fields. Their expertise spans a wide range of disciplines, from neuroscience to environmental science.

ɬ�﷬ researchers win Brain Canada’s Future Leaders in Canadian Brain Research Award

Jérôme Fortin, Paul Masset, and Simon Thebault have received the Future Leaders in Canadian Brain Research Award from Brain Canada for their research in brain cognition, brain cancer, and neurological disabilities.

The ɬ�﷬ researchers are among 22 successful applicants from across the country. They will each receive $100,000 in research funding distributed over a period of two years.

Claire M. Brown, Professor in the Department of Physiology, has been selected as Chair for Inclusion in Science and Engineering (CISE) in the province of Quebec. The newly established CISE program is jointly funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT).

On September 4, the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) announced its newest cohort of Fellows, and members of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. Myriam Denov, a leading advocate for children’s rights and a Professor in ɬ�﷬’s School of Social Work, has won a Gold Medal from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), its highest honour.

The award is for sustained leadership, dedication and originality of thought that have inspired students and colleagues; it comes with a $100,000 prize for future research.

Christian Genest receives the 2025 Acfas Urgel-Archambault Prize

Christian Genest, Distinguished James ɬ�﷬ Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, is the 2025 recipient of the Acfas Urgel-Archambault Prize. The award, sponsored by the Quebec government, is presented annually to a researcher in the field of physical sciences, mathematics, computer science or engineering.

Genest specializes in statistics. Through his career, he has repeatedly demonstrated how methodological breakthroughs can have important societal impacts.
