Biography:

Dr. Rohan Kumar is currently appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery and Multi-Organ Transplantation and Donation Program.

He graduated with merit from Guy鈥檚, King鈥檚 & St Thomas鈥 Medical School in London, United Kingdom. He then specialized in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, where he earned the FRCS (HPB) designation in 2020.

His passion lies in liver, pancreatic, and islet transplantation. Deeply committed to his work, he completed a doctoral thesis describing, for the first time worldwide, a model of normothermic physiological perfusion of the porcine pancreas. He successfully demonstrated its application in studying key parameters essential to the preservation of the pancreas and islets of Langerhans in a transplantation context.

From 2020 to 2022, he continued his training in Edmonton, Alberta, earning certification in abdominal transplantation (liver, pancreas, islets, kidney) as well as hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery from the American Society of Transplant Surgeons

Driven by a keen interest in healthcare management, he earned a Master of Business Administration with distinction. His master鈥檚 thesis, 鈥The Creation and Sharing of Knowledge Amongst NHS Surgeons,鈥 explores mechanisms for transferring and capturing tacit knowledge within the surgical community. In it, he demonstrates mastery of qualitative research methodologies, relevant statistical approaches, and a sustained interest in improving care efficiency

His comprehensive training in the British and North American healthcare systems has equipped him with a high degree of autonomy, recognized expertise, and a research network ideal for future collaborations in liver, pancreatic, kidney, and islet transplantation. He actively pursues his research and scientific publishing, and also serves as an Associate Editor of Transplant International, a leading European journal with international reach.

He has practiced in several countries and hospitals within his field of specialization. Most recently, as an assistant physician in the abdominal transplantation unit at Geneva University Hospitals, he established an independent clinical practice, performing liver, kidney, and pancreatic transplants, as well as islet transplants.

Outside of his professional life, he is an avid athlete, particularly enjoying triathlons and various outdoor activities.
