At the end of the presentation, the audience will:

  1. Describe the basic characteristics, diversity, and clinical relevance of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM)
  2. Describe the diversity of clinical presentations of pulmonary and extrapulmonary non-tuberculous mycobacterial disease
  3. Describe current culture-based diagnostic modalities for NTM, their inherent limitations and discuss the challenges in interpreting the clinical relevance of NTM recovered in culture from different specimens
  4. Describe the basic principle of metagenomic sequencing, its promise and limitations, and application to the diagnosis of NTM disease
