Biography:

My research program centers on geomechanics, geohazards, and the long-term stability and resilience of geosystems. A major focus is on tailings storage facilities and mine-closure infrastructures, where my team investigates strain-softening, creep deformation, and flow-failure mechanisms using advanced laboratory testing, particle-level sensors, and field-scale monitoring. This work directly supports risk-informed and climate-resilient mine-closure strategies, especially as warming temperatures, extreme precipitation, and evolving groundwater conditions increasingly affect closure performance. In parallel, my research extends to post-earthquake recovery, where we develop multi-sensor monitoring frameworks and data-driven models to quantify ground deformation, infrastructure damage, and the pace of community recovery. This contributes to more resilient urban systems and informs planning for sustainable redevelopment after major disasters.
