Prof. James Forbes, Zi Cong Guo, and Tim Barfoot win Best Paper at top robotics conference, the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA). Their paper, "Marginalizing and Conditioning Gaussians onto Linear Approximations of Smooth Manifolds with Applications in Robotics," was selected out of 1606 submissions.

A ɬ�﷬-engineered biosensor is helping to redefine food safety across Canada.

Phoela Health Inc., a ɬ�﷬ startup founded by Dr. Reza Abbasi, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Bioengineering, and Professor Sebastian Wachsmann-Hogiu, has been named one of Canada’s top five student-led foodtech ventures by the Canadian Food Innovation Network (CFIN). Phoela is also the only Quebec-based startup to receive this national recognition through CFIN’s NextGen Food Innovators program.

Recent ɬ�﷬ Graduate Victoria Anson Appointed to Two Prestigious Boards

Only a few weeks after graduation, Victoria Anson (Materials Engineering, Class of 2025) has been appointed to two international boards: the Copper Club Board of Directors and the ASM International Board of Trustees. Her dual appointments highlight her involvement in the mining and metals, metallurgical, and materials industries.

The Department of Bioengineering is pleased to announce that our new teaching laboratory is now open in the McConnell Engineering Building! This new space will support hands-on learning and student training in a modern, well-equipped environment.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to making this new lab a reality. We look forward to seeing the incredible work that will come out of this space in the semesters ahead!

This lab is an exciting addition to our existing teaching facilities currently housed at UQAM.

John Bishop (BEng’47) was ahead of his time. An environmentalist before most people knew the word, he was an active outdoorsman who took deliberate steps to protect and preserve the land. He got involved in upholding the things he believed in, living an engaged, productive and healthy 98 years.

The Department of Bioengineering invites you to come to the ɬ�﷬ Libraries and examine digital 3D reconstructions of rare objects preserved in various Montreal museums! Using touch tables the size of a TV screen installed at the Schulich Library of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering, and the McLennan Library Building, you can zoom and rotate 3D models as part of a virtual natural history museum.

Bioengineering Department Retreat at ɬ�﷬'s Gault Nature Reserve

Faculty and staff came together to connect and share ideas in the reserve’s beautiful natural setting. A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day memorable. John Dealy taught students to go out and make the world a better place

Pamela Dealy knew that her father was born knowing he wanted to be a chemical engineer. She knew that he worked at ɬ�﷬ for 40 years. She knew that he retired a Professor Emeritus in 2004. Most of all, she knew that even though he was Dean from 1994 to 1999, his true passion was teaching and helping students with their research.
