What鈥檚 in a face? Robots, facial expression and human communication

By Mitchel Benovoy (Engineering Neuroscience, 涩里番)

Patients paralyzed by accident or disease can lose the ability to communicate, resulting in deterioration of the patient鈥檚 quality of life. This presentation is about a non-invasive, video-based facial action recognition system which allows patients to communicate with minimal effort by translating facial movements into words or instructions. This system is also capable of automatic facial expression recognition for long-term monitoring of a patient鈥檚 emotional state and presents interesting enhancements for human-robot interaction.聽 Followed by the Temple Grandin Biopic (2010).
