Neuro Film Series - "Bottle Rocket"

Thursday, February 10, 2011 18:30to20:45
Montreal Neurological Institute 3801 rue University, Montreal, QC, H3A 2B4, CA

In 1996, before Fantastic Mr. Fox, before Rushmore, before The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Wes Anderson, at the time an aspiring film director from Austin, Texas, got together with his college buddy, an unknown actor named Owen Wilson, and Owen's brother Luke and made a movie called Bottle Rocket.  This film turned out to be one of the funniest movies of the last 20 years!  Owen Wilson went on to be a big star and date Kate Hudson.  Anderson continued to refine and perfect a cinematic style that now permeates every corner of pop culture.  What does any of this have to do with the nervous system?  Come to the Neuro Movie Night on February 10, 2011 and find out!

"Bottle Rocket" will be hosted by David Ragsdale, PhD on Thursday, February 10, 2011 (6:30 pm). David Ragsdale  is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Montreal Neurological Institute. His research investigates ion channels, the proteins responsible for the electrical properties of nerve and muscle cells. He teaches at the undergraduate, graduate and medical school levels and is especially interested in developing educational programs that enable students to make connections between basic cellular processes in the nervous system and complex phenomena like consciousness and volition.

Neuro Movie Nights are free and snacks can be purchased (including wraps and popcorn!
