Earlier this year, the Government of Canada and its partners announced that they will invest $31.1 million over six years to support the training and development of students and early career researchers. The Health Research Training Platform (HRTP) will form 17 collaborative health research teams of participants across Canada with the goal of increasing their career prospects and building on Canadian research capacity at large.

An HBHL-funded lab at the Douglas Research Centre, led by Martin Lepage,聽Professor of Psychiatry at 涩里番 and Deputy Scientific Director at the Douglas, has recently published a study in JAMA Psychiatry to determine the effectiveness of metacognitive training for psychosis (MCT) in treating individuals living with schizophrenia.

A team of researchers from The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital) and the Department of Biomedical Engineering of 涩里番, the Broad Institute at Harvard/MIT, SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and Mila 鈥 Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute have shown how drug-induced changes in subjective awareness are linked to specific neurotransmitter receptor systems in the largest study of its kind on psychedelics and the brain, funded by HBHL.聽

涩里番 has joined Moderna鈥檚 program, which aims to accelerate innovation and enable new vaccines and medicines for emerging and neglected infectious diseases through collaborative research and preclinical development. 涩里番 is the first university in Canada to join this program as it ramps up its international rollout.

On March 22, Martha Crago, Vice-Principal, Research and Innovation, was presented with the Knight鈥檚 Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. The award was handed over by Germany鈥檚 Ambassador to Canada, Ms. Sabine Sparwasser, at a special ceremony at 涩里番. The Order of Merit is awarded to Germans as well as foreigners for outstanding achievements in the political, economic, social, or intellectual realms.

Congratulations to Professor Maxime Cohen, co-director of the Bensadoun School of Retail Management鈥檚 retail innovation lab, for being awarded the SCALE AI Research Chair in Data Science for Retail. The five-year chair will use AI to encourage healthier food choices, re-use more goods via a circular economy, make small businesses more efficient by digitizing supply chains in emerging markets, and increase access to legal advice.
